I’ve looked for a small, light car-toppable boat plan for several years; there are two lakes on my way to work that I’ve wanted to explore. When I saw the article of your Newt kayak in a magazine last year, I knew it had my name on it! I built it in forty hours using Big Box Store 1/4 inch Luan plywood (mahogany outside, birch inside) and put on a Varnished finish. It looks beautiful and I always get complements on the water. The Newt fits on top of my 1965 VW Bug’s roof rack pefrectly, and at 35 pounds, it’s easy to lift on. Now I can get off work and be on the water in twenty minutes, enjoying the serenity.
