This 16 ft. Sea Bright skiff was my first lapstrake boat. I fell in love with lapstrake, or clinker, construction while building her. Sea Bright skiffs have a long and colorful history: They were used for many years by fishermen who had to launch and land their boats through the surf. This type of construction, because of its lightweight and flexible watertight integrity and inherent seaworthiness, proved to be ideal for this kind of service. For the same reasons Sea Bright skiffs were used extensively as rum runners because they could safely and reliably land heavy cargoes of bootlegged booze through the surf. And they still see service in many areas of the world as surf rescue boats.
